Where We Live

 In News

Hello Parents and Caregivers,

We take this time to wish each of you and your family a wonderful and safe holiday season.

Our time with our family and friends is even more precious considering the times we live in. We each must be grateful for the health and safety of all of those whom we love.

We thank you for entrusting your children’s education and safety to Books & Rattles, Inc. preschools. We have enjoyed your child in every way. Our dedicated teaching and clinical staff have provided your child with the highest quality of instruction and therapy to bring your child to the next developmental level. We do take this time to thank all of our Books & Rattles, Inc. staff for their dedication to teaching your child during this time, and we ask you as well to send a heartfelt thanks to each of them.

As we all enter into our holiday vacation, we ask you to continue to remain vigilant regarding COVID-19 restrictions. The NYC Department of Health advises against all travel and gatherings with people outside the household. If you do travel, you must follow all State and City guidelines for quarantining and testing upon return.

From all of us at Books & Rattles, Inc, we wish your family a safe and healthy holiday!

December Theme: Where We Live

This month our theme is “Where We Live.”

New Yorkers live in many types of homes. We’ll learn about the diverse places people live in our community. We’ll explore all kinds of living environments, from houses to apartments, and more.

We’ll also learn about animal homes, both pets who live with us and animals who create their own homes in nature.

What’s Coming Up

December 24 – January 1   Holiday break, school closed

Home Activity

Playdough and Sticks

Your child will be learning about kinds of home structures at school. While at home, you can encourage your child to build different home environments with two items you likely have easy in your home: playdough and sticks.

Use play dough, popsicle sticks, toothpicks, or other small stick types to build three-dimensional structures. Your child can put the sticks into balls of the playdough to create the homes.

Snack Time

Ants on a Log

Your child will be learning about where animals live in nature. Talk about where insects like ants live over a fun snack!

Fill the hollow of a celery stick with peanut butter, cream cheese, frosting, or other spreads and top with raisins to create ants on a log.

Here are some fun ant home facts you can share while eating your ants on a log: Most ants live underground, but some create nests in trees. Some tiny ants can make nests inside small hiding places like acorns.
