How to Make Your Own Baby Food

 In Meals and Snacks

There are so many brands of baby food on the market. The healthiest kind is the one made by you. Making your own baby food is easier than you think.

In this post, we are sharing an easy way to make, store, and serve baby food. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends starting to supplement milk with food around 6 months. Talk to your pediatrician about what foods to start introducing to your baby’s diet, and when you can mix and match fruits, veggies, and proteins.

Ice Cube Tray Baby Food

Ingredients

Fruit, veggie, or even meat of choice

Step 1: Choose a fruit, veggie, or even meat. Peel (if needed) and chop up.

Step 2: Boil or steam until soft

Step 3: Puree in blender or food processor with liquid (water or breastmilk) until smooth. Puree each food item separately.

Step 4: Freeze in ice cube trays

Step 5: Pop frozen pureed food into freezer bags, and label with food and date. Store in freezer for up to three months.

How to serve homemade baby food

Simply heat up the cube in a microwave safe bowl (30 seconds to one minute should do the trick), and serve. Each frozen cube of baby food is equal to about one ounce, or two tablespoons.

When your baby is getting used to eating food, you will want to introduce one puree at a time. This will help isolate allergens, and also get your baby’s palette used to different kinds of foods, textures, and flavors.

When your baby is ready to eat more than one item of food (talk to your pediatrician about when to do this), that’s when the fun begins! Mix and match food cubes, as well as adding baby rice and oatmeal, and even spices.

We hope this is much easier than you thought. Spend a few hours making frozen food cubes over the weekend, and you will be set for months. You will save money, and know that your baby is eating the healthiest food you can provide.

Bon appétit!
